Genuinely one of the worst movies I've ever had the displeasure of watching. 2 hours of nothing. Nothing valuable, nothing entertaining, nothing of note. I couldn't even compliment the visuals if I truly wanted to. The most visually interesting scenes could only be whatever that Milk Place is, and the look of that record shop. Everything else is just so boring, it's actually irritating that a movie this bad is considered a "classic" or "film school" movie. Also because there's like... no weight at all. There's no meaning, there's no message at the end. They seem to want you to feel sorry for him for the second hour of the movie when literally everything he goes through is deserved. "Oh boo hoo, woe is me, I suffered so much!" Literally no one cares, shut up. "I want to die when I listen to my favorite song," okay and? Am I supposed to feel bad, cause I'm not going to. 2 hours of random violence and nudity mixed together amidst boring colorless scenes and a manchild whining about experiencing the consequences of his actions. Not to mention you can't tell what they're saying half the time, they all sound stupid. Who actually enjoys this??

" Yes guys, a three minute long opening of what's supposed to portray underage teen girls fully naked in slow motion is totally necessary for the movie!! Yes guys, women do in fact sensually rub themselves as they wash themselves, especially in public, trust me guys!! "

Other than that and the elephant in the room being that the casting for a character like Carrie was obviously not accurate and only makes it slightly confusing if you don't know better, the movie was good. The role was played well regardless. A very "good for her" moment for sure. Poor Carrie.

Very much overhyped purely for shock value if I'm going to be completely honest. Characters were very one dimensional obviously and overall the plot was kind of nonexistent. Like yes it's an "oh my god this movie was banned in *insert countries* for being disturbing!!" but that's sort of all it has for it. It's obviously not meant for someone to actually "enjoy" watching in every sense of the definition, which I completely understand and it makes perfect sense to me. You're not supposed to like watching what happens to her, which is why i sort of have to side eye anyone who claims to actually have thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Because what part is there to find joy in watching, it's a child getting abused in numerous ways and being set up for failure. Visually it has it's alright moments, but it's very clearly a product of where animation was at the time. The ending song was good, other than that, there's really nothing actually "good" going for it, just another movie hyped up for being disturbing.

Actually made me feel disturbed, anxious, and in awe all at once. Her spiraling seemed extremely valid and understandable given the circumstances and it was awesome how they impacted the final performances and which roles she took on due to them.

Pretty solid movie, I can see why people might enjoy it. Wouldn't go out of my way to rewatch it, but if put on by someone else, I wouldn't complain. Toby Maguire annoys me in everything he's in, but otherwise everyone else was decent. I enjoyed Young and Beautiful being played at least 3 different times throughout the movie, could never go wrong with that song. (I grew up listening to that song for half of my life, and somehow I was so blind that I never saw the words on the cover stating it was MADE for the movie until like a week ago.....)
